Animals in Aberdare National Park Kenya

Aberdare national park is one of the impressive destinations because of being a home to variety of animal species, a traveler on a Kenya wildlife safari must visit. The park boosts with all of the Big Five mammals ‘’elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes and rhinos. Other commonly spotted animals include hyenas, buffalos, defassa waterbucks, reedbucks, olive baboons, elephants, black and white colobus monkeys and Sykes monkeys. Leopards and black rhinos are sometimes seen at one of the treetops lodge’s floodlit waterholes at night. Species like common eland and serval live in the higher moorlands. The salient area of the Aberdare is an elephant migration corridor of denser forests and range of wildlife like dik-dik, bush pig, reedbuck and more foragers.

Nocturnal animals to see in Aberdare game park include giant forest hog and large-spotted genet which often visit the waterholes at night. The forest is also a home to the very elusive and unique bongo antelopes. Lions are also rarely. Other rare species to see include African wild cat, golden cat, serval cat, African civet cat and the blue duiker.

Aberdare national park is famously know as a home for big five mammals marking it to be one of the top visited Kenya national park on safaris .The national park is located on East African Rift valley between Nyandarua and Nyeri county close to Nyeri city .It was gazette as a national park in 1950 to protect biodiversity of wildlife species ,covering an area of about 766 square kilometers comprised of several habitants of mountainous areas ,moorlands ,open grassland, tropical rainforest a home for primates ,birds and other species of wildlife .The park hosts large population of Eastern black rhinoceros and to rare bongo species .Still a privileged destination for birding with more than 300 species of birds ,some of the species include Aberdare cisticola ,African eagle ,Sunbird ,Sparrow hawk ,African goshawk ,Plovers and many more.
